Uma Sahasram
caturdaśaḥ stabakaḥ - upagītivṛttam

The fourteenth Stabaka, entitled **Kālī, Gaurī, Kuṇḍalinī ca — “Kālī, Gaurī and Kuṇḍalinī”**, presents these not as separate powers but as **three modes of the one Jagadambā**. Gaurī is described through Her luminous feminine form, Kālī as the vast cosmic power associated with space, time and transformation, and Kuṇḍalinī as that very same Śakti dwelling in every embodied being. The title is therefore exactly justified by the verses: Muni moves from the cosmic identity of Kālī and Gaurī to the intimate yogic presence of the Mother as Kuṇḍalinī, asleep in the ordinary person and awakened in the yogin.
The central verses reveal Muni’s profound yogic vision. He connects Kuṇḍalinī with the rising inner fire from the Mūlādhāra and the descending lunar essence from the head, interpreting **Agni and Soma as complementary manifestations of the Goddess**. She is at once the fire, the Soma, the nectar arising from their union, and the Consciousness that experiences it. The later verses become strikingly personal: Muni marvels at the Mother’s grace despite his own perceived deficiencies in ritual observance and mantra practice, then turns toward the deeper sādhana of seeking the root of *ahaṅkāra*. He explicitly recalls the insight associated with **Ramaṇa Maharṣi — tracing the ego back to its source** — and finally offers his own powerful ego itself as the sacrificial animal at the feet of the Mother.
This Stabaka is especially remarkable for the way Muni unites **Śākta Tantra, Kuṇḍalinī-yoga, Vedic Agni-Soma symbolism, self-enquiry and intensely autobiographical devotion**. His writing shifts naturally from doctrinal definition to mystical experience, self-questioning, humility and surrender. In the compact **Upagīti metre**, profound metaphysics becomes immediate spiritual testimony. The concluding offering of these verses to the Mistress of the house of the One denoted by *Um* fittingly gathers the Stabaka’s central insight: **the cosmic Kālī, the beautiful Gaurī and the awakened Kuṇḍalinī within are one and the same Divine Mother**.
