Mangala Gauri Stotram – Brief Introduction

Mangala Gauri Stotram is a beautiful devotional hymn composed by Kavyakantha Vasishtha Sri Ganapati Muni in praise of the Divine Mother Gauri. In these eight verses, the Goddess is adored as the daughter of the mountain, the compassionate Mother of the universe, and the supreme divine power pervading the cosmos.

The hymn presents Gauri not merely as the consort of Lord Shiva, but as the very consciousness that dwells within all beings and as the cosmic power behind the movements of the planets, the wind, the sky, the Sun, and the radiant forces of creation. Her divine power subdues hostile forces, protects the worlds, and works through the great cosmic deities who carry out her will.

She is praised as ever pure, eternally youthful, beautiful, and free from all limitation. The concluding verse invokes her as the beloved of Shankara and the sacred Mother who purifies the three worlds.

In the Vedic Sanatana tradition, at the conclusion of an auspicious event, it is customary for women to offer Mangala Arati and bless those assembled while singing a traditional Arati Gitam or auspicious song. Mangala Gauri Stotram is an especially ideal hymn for women to learn and sing on such sacred and festive occasions, as every verse radiates the gracious, protective, and auspicious blessings of Maa Gauri.
