Introduction to Sri Amṛtāmbā Pañcaratnam
Sri Amṛtāmbā Pañcaratnam is a short but beautiful hymn of five verses composed by Kavyakantha Vasishtha Sri Ganapati Muni in praise of Bhagavati Sri Amṛtāmbā, the divine consort of Bhagavan Sri Yoga Nṛsiṁha of Ghaṭikācala Kṣetra.
The origin of this hymn is deeply inspiring and is closely connected with *Sri Nṛsiṁha Pañcaratnam*. One day in 1904, Sri Raghavachari, the Head Master of the school where Sri Ganapati Muni was then working as a teacher, mentioned in conversation that he had visited Cholangipuram, also known as Sholingur and Ghaṭikācala Kṣetra, for the darśan of Sri Yoga Nṛsiṁha Swamy. Since Muni had not visited that sacred place, Raghavachari wished to describe the shrine to him. But even before he could begin, Sri Ganapati Muni, moved by a divine force, began to recite verses spontaneously.
These verses not only described the shrine, but also praised the tattva, mahimā, and vaibhava of Bhagavan Yoga Nṛsiṁha, as though Muni himself had directly seen the deities of Ghaṭikācala. The five verses that poured forth from him impromptu came to be known as *Sri Nṛsiṁha Pañcaratnam*. In that same divine state, Muni also sang five verses in praise of Bhagavati Amṛtāmbā, the presiding Goddess and beloved companion of Sri Yoga Nṛsiṁha.
In this hymn, Sri Amṛtāmbā is adored as the supreme divine presence shining on the peak of Ghaṭikācala. She is praised as the nectar of the minds of great sages, the nectar of Sri Nṛsiṁha’s eyes, and the nectar of poets’ tongues. The hymn beautifully presents her as the visible blessing of the eyes, the treasure sought by the words of the Vedas and Āgamas, and the divine Mother whose grace delights the heart of Narakesari, Bhagavan Nṛsiṁha.
Composed instantaneously through Muni’s divine vision and spiritual power, *Sri Amṛtāmbā Pañcaratnam* is considered a sacred and powerful hymn. Devotees believe that those who recite it with faith and devotion receive the protection, compassion, and blessings of Bhagavati Amṛtāmbā and Bhagavan Sri Yoga Nṛsiṁha.
॥ kāvyakaṇṭha vāsiṣṭha śrīgaṇapatimuni viracitam śrīamṛtāmbāpañcaratnam ॥
bhāgyena bhūmibhājāmamṛtāmbā nāma bibhratī vasati ।
ghaṭikācalasya śikhare dayitā daityadalanasya ॥1॥
sutarāṃ karuṇākalitaṃ vidadhannarasiṃhamānasaṃ calitam ।
ghaṭikācale'tilalitaṃ kimapi paraṃ daivataṃ jayati ॥2॥
amṛtaṃ munīndramanasāmamṛtaṃ narasiṃhanayanayugalasya ।
amṛtaṃ kavirasanānāṃ ghaṭikādrau dhāma paramasti ॥3॥
sevitumatīva yogyaṃ nigamāgamavākyasañcayairmṛgyam ।
tanubaddhamakṣibhāgyaṃ nṛharerghaṭikācale jayati ॥4॥
nivasatyamarendrasundarī kabarīlālitapādadhūlikā ।
narakesaricittadolikā ghaṭikādrau jalarāśibālikā ॥5॥
॥ iti śrībhagavanmaharṣiramaṇāntevāsino vāsiṣṭhasya narasiṃhasūnorgaṇapateḥ kṛtiḥ śrīamṛtāmbāpañcaratnaṃ samāptam ॥
