Bhagavan Yoga Anjaneya of Ghatikachala (Sholingur)
Introduction to Sri Yogāñjaneya Pañcaratnam
Sri Yogāñjaneya Pañcaratnam is a short but powerful hymn of five verses composed by Kāvyakaṇṭha Vāsiṣṭha Śrī Gaṇapati Muni in praise of Śrī Yogāñjaneya, who is worshipped at the sacred Ghaṭikācala Kṣetra, also known as Cholangipuram or Sholingur. In this hymn, Śrī Hanumān is adored as a great yogi whose mind rests like a bee at the lotus feet of Bhagavān Śrī Yoga Nṛsiṁha.
The origin of this hymn is deeply inspiring. One day in 1904, Śrī Raghavachari, the Head Master of the school where Śrī Ganapati Muni was then working as a teacher, mentioned that he had visited Cholangipuram for the darśan of Śrī Yoga Nṛsiṁha Swamy. Since Muni had not visited that sacred place, Raghavachari wished to describe the shrine to him. But even before he could begin, Śrī Ganapati Muni, moved by a divine force, began to recite verses spontaneously.
The first five verses that poured forth from him praised the tattva, mahimā, and vaibhava of Bhagavān Śrī Yoga Nṛsiṁha, and came to be known as *Sri Nṛsiṁha Pañcaratnam*. He then continued with five verses in praise of Śrī Amṛtāmbā, known as *Sri Amṛtāmbā Pañcaratnam*. After this, he sang five verses on Śrī Yogāñjaneya, who was also present in the sacred shrine. The devotees and students were deeply astonished that Muni could compose verses on Yogāñjaneya without having prior knowledge of his presence there. Everyone felt that Śrī Ganapati Muni possessed the śakti of *divya-dṛṣṭi* — divine vision.
In *Sri Yogāñjaneya Pañcaratnam*, Hanumān is not merely praised as the heroic servant of Śrī Rāma, but as a yogi absorbed in the contemplation of the non-difference between Śrī Rāma and Śrī Nṛsiṁha. The hymn beautifully presents him as both Mahāvīra, the mighty warrior who destroyed countless demons, and Yogin, the silent contemplative seated near the feet of Bhagavān Nṛsiṁha.
Composed instantaneously through Muni’s divine power and vision, these three Pañcaratna hymns — *Sri Nṛsiṁha Pañcaratnam*, *Sri Amṛtāmbā Pañcaratnam*, and *Sri Yogāñjaneya Pañcaratnam* — are considered highly auspicious and powerful. Devotees believe that those who recite them with faith, seeking the protection, grace, and blessings of the presiding deities of Ghaṭikācala Kṣetra, will surely receive divine help and inner strength.
