Kavyakantha Sri Ganapati Muni's
Indrani Saptasati
prathamaṃ gāyatraṃ śatakam - prathamaḥ śaśivadanā stabakaḥ

This opening Stabaka of the sacred Indrāṇī Saptasatī begins with a powerful invocation to Śacī Devī, Indrāṇī, the divine consort and śakti of Mahendra. Here, Śrī Gaṇapati Muni does not merely praise Indrāṇī as a celestial goddess, but reveals Her as the supreme Divine Mother, identical in essence with Śivā, Durgā, and the cosmic power that sustains the worlds.
The poet prays that Her moon-like smile may remove the darkness from his path and that She may protect the noble land of birth, which has become weak, directionless, and deprived of courage. Thus, this Stabaka is not only a personal hymn of devotion, but also a prayer for the protection, upliftment, and spiritual awakening of Bhārata.
A profound philosophical vision unfolds in these verses. The Supreme Reality is described as beyond the three worlds, subtler than the atom, eternal, and true. Śacī is shown as the dynamic power present in all divine actions, the great śakti of Mahendra, whom some call Mahendra and others call Maheśa according to their Vedic or Tantric understanding. The Muni harmonizes these visions and declares that Śacī and Śivā are not separate deities, but one reality understood through different traditions.
The Stabaka further reveals the Mother as the one who contains the three worlds within Herself, shines beyond space, appears as the body of space, and manifests as Virāṭ in all beings. She is the subtle, infinite, non-empty reality behind the universe. The poet humbly admits that no one can adequately sing Her glory, just as no one can measure the sky.
The final verses show the intense devotion of Śrī Gaṇapati Muni. Whether or not the Goddess is pleased, whether or not his own desires are fulfilled, his speech naturally worships Her feet, like a loving wife serving her beloved husband. The praise of Her qualities itself is declared powerful enough to remove sin and bring auspiciousness.
This first Stabaka is therefore a luminous opening to Indrāṇī Saptasatī: a hymn of protection, śakti, Vedāntic insight, national awakening, and complete surrender to the Divine Mother.
