Kavyakantha Sri Ganapati Muni's

Indrani Saptasati

tṛtīyamānuṣṭubhaṃ śatakam - prathamaḥ pathyāvaktra stabakaḥ

Indrani Saptasati - The 700 Verses Mystical work of Kavyakantha Sri Ganapati Muni

This Stabaka is one of the most philosophical and metaphysical portions of Indrāṇī Saptasatī. Śrī Gaṇapati Muni invokes the smile of the Supreme Śakti to remove confusion, because from Her alone this wondrous universe expands.

Here, Indrāṇī is not presented merely as the queen of heaven, but as Cit-Śakti, the conscious power present in all beings, in all states, at all times. The Muni explains the unity of the Divine and Śakti: the Supreme is praised by names such as Indra, Īśa, and Vāsudeva, while the same power is adored as Śacī, Śivā, and Mahālakṣmī. The apparent difference exists only for practical expression; in truth, the Reality is one.

The Stabaka deeply examines the relation between the knower, knowledge, inner consciousness, and its many branches. Just as many waves may arise in one ocean, many individual knowers appear in the one ocean of consciousness, yet the underlying Reality is never divided. The Mother, as the collective Consciousness, is not different from Brahman, from the gods, or from individual souls.

Śrī Gaṇapati Muni further explains creation through the subtle “seeds” of beings hidden in the inner Self. Before manifestation, all beings exist undivided in Her. The universe is Her expression, whether understood as beginningless or as newly projected by the power of Consciousness. As dreams arise from individual consciousness, the universe arises from the vast collective Consciousness of the Mother.

The Stabaka reaches its highest declaration in verse 220: “You are Brahman, You are Parāśakti, You are all the deities, You are the jīva, You are the entire universe; apart from You, nothing exists.” The world is not an illusion like a snake imagined on a rope; rather, its relation to the Mother is like that of clay and pot — the form is dependent on Her, but not separate from Her.

The Stabaka concludes with a prayer that the eternal Śakti flowing in Gaṇapati Muni’s body may act for the protection of afflicted Bhārata.

Highlights: Cit-Śakti as the source of the universe; unity of Brahman and Śakti; harmony of Indra, Īśa, Vāsudeva, Śacī, Śivā, and Mahālakṣmī; creation as manifestation from undivided consciousness; the universe as the Mother’s own vibhūti; prayer for Bhārata’s protection.
