Indrani Saptasati - The 700 Verses Mystical work of Kavyakantha Sri Ganapati Muni

This Stabaka presents Śacī Devī, Indrāṇī, as the vast cosmic Mother whose body is the limitless expanse of space. Her smile is invoked as the destroyer of aggressive sins and as the giver of abundant auspiciousness. With compassion, She is prayed to make Bhāratabhūmi prosperous, radiant, and imperishable in glory.

The central vision of this Stabaka is the viśvarūpa of the Divine Mother. The poet declares that She has no separate house or dwelling, because all worlds and all temples exist within Her own body. Her body is called puṣkara, the vast luminous expanse, in which countless suns, moons, planets, and worlds are contained. No ordinary mind can measure Her power, and no one without the supreme inward vision can truly behold Her, though She dwells very near as the very space around us.

Śrī Gaṇapati Muni then explains that what people call “the universe” is truly Her immeasurable body, because all that becomes the object of vision arises from Her. This vast sky filled with stars is one part of Her manifestation. The sages call this great expanse maho-jagat, the world of luminous vastness.

The Stabaka also presents a subtle Vedāntic and Upaniṣadic vision. The supportless support of all visible existence is called Satyaloka and Paramapuruṣa. The ancient Ṛṣis called this cosmic expanse āpah, and the Śruti also names Her Virāṭ. Whether She is spoken of as the bride of Virāṭ or as Puruṣa through another mode of expression, both names properly indicate Her supreme cosmic reality.

A significant teaching appears regarding gender. The inner reality of beings is neither woman nor man. Gender belongs to embodied forms. Since the sky holds the power of the Lord and bears the seeds of all worlds, it may be described both as feminine and masculine. Thus, Śacī transcends ordinary gender, while also appearing as the beautiful cosmic queen.

The Stabaka ends with a moving prayer: may the Mother’s rays enter the cave of the body and make Gaṇapati Muni radiant and powerful in his mission to protect Bhāratabhūmi.

Highlights:
